Haloween half volunteer info

Team,

We will be meeting at the mouth of Provo canyon at 7:45 am sharp. I will break you into 3 groups.

1. Sundance water stop
2. Double tunnel water stop
3. Vivian park water stop

We had 50 sign up to help, but will need more than that. This year there will be over 3000 runners..so every person will help. Bring your parents, your friends, siblings..anyone that would like to help. Its alot of fun!

Also remember to dress warm, it can get cool up the canyon in the morning.

The race starts at 9 am, and because we only have the first 3 stops, should be done by 11..

Thanks everyone for you're help and support of the OREM cross country team.

State Results / Halloween half marathon water stops

Hey Team, I will post more when I can, but know what although we did not finish up where we thought we would. I am still very proud of each of you and the way you have worked and taken care of yourselves to ensure the best possible out come.

Boys finished 3rd place with Chance and Tanner finishing as 1st team all state.
Girls finished 6th place summer finishing 3rd (all state) and Candace Finishing 11th.

Varsity team, I have posted workout for the next 8 days. I do expect you to follow the plan while Camie and I are gone.

Also, look for information on the Halloween half marathon to be posted towards the end of next week. Plan on meeting early and taking care of the first 3 water stops. We had nearly 50 people sign up but I would like to get more. So if you have anyone that is willing to come and help, please let me know.

Thanks,

Andy

Region 8 Results

Team, the Region 8 Championships were a great success for Orem High. We achieved our first primary goal this year of qualifying both our Girls and our Boys team for State.

The girls team finished 3 points behind Timpanogos for 4th. and the boys team finished 20 points behind MVHS to take 2nd. I was very proud of our overall team effort. Especially with the caliber and talent we have from all of the region 8 teams. Region 8 represents the majority of the best teams and individual runners in the state.

Here are the results for you to review:
Results:

Individually Summer Harper (in one of the most exciting races I have seen in some time) won the Girls Varsity race and is the 2011 Region Champion.

Chance Werner also ran a very good race to be narrowly beat out by Jake from Timpanogos.

Every Varsity athlete, and the vast majority of our JV athletes ran PR's on this course crushing our pre region performances.

It was so impressive that our Girls Varsity team team (top 5) beat our Varsity Girls top 5 from pre-region by 10:43 combined time. Thats over 2 minutes per runner faster then pre region. Also, we had all five girls under 19:45 with a top 5 gap of 2:20. Both of these are season bests and would beat the last few years. Really proud of the Team effort.

For the boys, they beat pre-region top 5 total time by 5:50.00. That is 1:10 faster per runner. Even with Chance running a fantastic race, we only had a top 5 gap of 46.3 seconds. 4 runners under 16:00, and all 7 under 16:33.

I will discuss our state Varsity teams at practice this week. With so many great runners this is very difficult for me. However, we are only allowed 7 registered athletes.

I am grateful to each of you for the time and effort you put into this team. As a team, we always will stand stronger then we would as an individual.

Take Pride in your dedication, your work ethic, and for your heart! But most importantly, take pride because you are an OREM HIGH TIGER!!

thanks,

Andy

What should a Runner eat and Drink?

Team, as we are getting into the season, I want to emphasize the importance of fueling your body for maximum performance. Just like a car cannot drive if it is out of gas, neither can your body.

I am including some links to some articles I found that will help you get started. Please read through and understand the importance of hydrating, and fueling.

The Healthy Runners Diet

Recipes For Runners Sucess

Before, During, and After Diet

Sipping Point - How to prevent dehydration!

What to Drink when?

You all work very hard, and if you do not eat, drink, and get the rest you need. You will never perform at the level you desire!

Eat and drink up!!

2011 summer mileage program

Team,

we have talked about this the last couple practices. I have created a link to the tracking form for each of you to download and print out. This will help you to keep track of your mileage for the summer.

Summer Tracker Spreadsheet!!

Summer Training Log PDF (to Simply Print)

The time frame will be from Monday June 20th - Aug 27th (First week of School)

here's how the program will work:

A. The "GOAL": Boys 400 Miles, Girls 350 Miles
B. The "Breakdown": Boys 40.00 Miles Per week(6.66 Per Day), Girls 35 Miles Per Week (5.83 Per Day)
C. Bonus Mileage: Races count as 2x... So if you race a 5K, you would earn 6.2 miles
D. You will be required to track your own mileage and turn in a copy of your mileag log to be eligable.
D. The "Reward": Each person that achieves the goal will receive a summer Mileage shirt... more details to come on that later in the summer.

Please work hard to hit your goal. I believe that each of you can do this. Especially if you are coming to practice and getting in the evening runs when scheduled.

2011 Pipeline Time Trial

hey Guys,

here are the official results from our first Team Time Trial.

- Summer now has the 1st and 2nd Fastest times (2011 time is slightly slower than last year)
- Candace now has the 4th best time and was 3 seconds faster than last year.
- Garrett is now #3 all time and had a 15.2 second PR over last year..

In looking at the team, our combined times are also very good. comparing this to the last few years, some of the best. We need to continue to work together as a TEAM. Doing this helps to build team spirit, as well as will help each of you to continue to improve as an individual.

this is a good start, we have a long way to go. Keep working hard!!

great job!

We have more than 4 athletes in each relay, we will finalize the list and include alternates by Thursday.

Girls Win Utah County Invite - Very Narrow Margain...

Hey Guys,

just wanted to say congratulations to all those who particpated in this weekends track meet. Our girls team in a very close battle with The rest of the teams, were able to pull of a very narrow victory over Springville (we ended up winning by two points)

So for those of you that were there when we received our tropy for 2nd place, and are wondering how that happened... We found that they did not have our correct 4x4 time in and when that was fixed had enough points to overtake Springville...

So great job to all... our boys were 8th overall and 4th in 4A. But that counts polevault which isn't scored at region or state.

We deffinately have some big opportunities ahead of us. But this weekend will set the team up nicely for our meet this Saturday, BYU, then Region.

Only a few weeks left, lets really focus and commit to doing the best we can over the next few weeks.

thanks,

Andy

Orem's Tiger Trials - Help Needed

Hello Everyone,

We are quickly approaching our Tiger Trials track meet (Saturday 30th), and I am in need of some parental help.

We anticipate about 15 schools to be attending. It is intentionally not a big meet. When we scheduled the meet with the state, the Orem calander was clear. then Prom showed up on the calander on the same day. We are encouraging the team to do their day dates on Friday after school, so that they can compete and help out during the meet.

The meet starts at 9:00 AM and we anticipate it to be completely done by 2-3 PM at the latest. (I am a stickler for schedule, so usually run a very tight meet)

Here is what we are in need of:

1> We are looking for 4-5 adults to help put together and run our concessions during the track meet. This is a great way for the team to raise money for equipment and other program needs. Depending on how you want to do it, we could use the school costco card to purchase drinks, food etc...

2> During the meet we have made arrangements for USATF officials to be at the meet, but it takes a bunch of people to run a meet. Pulling tape for long jump, helping in the field events like shot/disc/jav, press box with computers, etc...

3> Computers - If anyone has a computer or two that they would be willing to donate to the track team, we would love to be able to set up more of a permanent timing solution for our team. We have a great timing set up now, but to be able to use the equipment, I usually have to bring personal computers from home... and that is not always practical. We are thinking of purchasing a couple computers to be used, but thought we would reach out to our Track community/support group first to see if there are any options available. I have specific computer requirements if you need that information.

If there is something you can help with, please call me or send me an email and I will gather names and make assignments.

thank you for all of the support,

Andy Jacobs

Half Way Point of the Season !!!

Hey Guys,

This Saturday's Meet will mark the 1/2 way point of the 2011 Track Season. This week and next will be critical for your individual and team success.

This Saturday we are going to be participating in the UHSTCA meet at Timpanogas High School. This will be another great opportunity to gain some race experience as well as provide an opportunity to qualify for the State Meet.

I know some of you will be going on Spring Break retreats next week, so for you this meet is even more important.

We will be holding practice over Spring Break each day... and for those of you that will be gone, it will be critical for you to find a way to workout each day.

We will talk more about it this week... but whatever you do, make it a great week of training.

Thanks,

Andy

3/16/2011 Quad Meet @ Timpanogas High School

Hey Guys,

I have not received a schedule of events yet, But as soon as I get it... I will.

The first event will start at 3:30 PM, so please plan on being to Timpanogas High School by 2:30.(there will not be a bus provided for this meet)

Each Athlete will have a competitor number and will use that number for every event.

We did have to register you as an athlete, but not in any specific events. Please plan on competing in at least two events (should be your two best events) and in any other event you would like to compete (up to 4 events)

We will not be doing any relay teams tomorrow, so that each of you can focus and get a time in your open events.

It may be a bit windy tomorrow, and could possibly rain. So please plan accordingly!

Bring some fluids, and a snack to keep your energy up.

I am looking forward to a great first meet, and cannot wait to see how each of you do.

thanks,

Coach Andy Jacobs

Weber Indoor Invitational

Here is the info on the Weber Meet:

As in the past, pre-entries are not needed. Simply show up! Competition on Saturday will begin at 9:00 a.m. See the attached schedule for the order of events. For all events, the girls will run first.

By not listing a time schedule, we will be able to move the events along as quickly as possible. We plan to complete the meet by 4:30 p.m. Athletes must be aware of the order of events so that they can be ready to report to the bullpen in sufficient time to be assigned to a lane and heat.

Admission to the meet is $3.00 for everyone entering the facility. The admission ticket will allow the athlete to participate in one event. For each additional event, the athlete must purchase a $2.00 ticket. Friday night athletes, coaches and fans may show their stamped hand on Saturday and be admitted for $2.00.
